Category Information

Story Manga Category

Submit your fully original manga between 10-45 pages.
Applicants must create both the story and the artwork, including characters, plot and visual storytelling.

Drawing Category

Transform the officially prepared manga storyboards into a complete, polished manga manuscript.
Choose from the following genre: Battle, School, and Romance.
Turn the character designs, paneling and overall artistic direction into your own style.

Prizes

The 10 finalists in the Story Manga Category and the winning entries in the Drawing Category will be published on MANGA Plus!

Story Manga Category

  • First Prize: €5,000
  • Second Prize: €2,500

Drawing Category

  • First Prize: €1,000
  • Second Prize: €500

*First Prize and Second Prize will be awarded for each genre.

 

Judging

Story Manga Category

First Round

The Japan Expo Team selects 10 works.

Final Round

From the 10 finalists, the MANGA Plus EiC and editors from the Shonen Jump+, Digital Margaret and Bessatsu Margaret editorials will determine the winners for first prize and second prize.

 

Drawing Category

Final Round

The MANGA Plus EiC, editors from the Shonen Jump+, Digital Margaret and Bessatsu Margaret determine the winners for first prize and second prize for each genre.

Results Announcement

Winners will be announced on stage at Japan Expo 2026, and on this page.

How to Apply

Candidates must send a complete PDF file of their work via a Wetransfer link or equivalent.

Please include the following information:

  • Work’s title
  • First and last name
  • Pseudonym to be used
  • Date of birth
  • City of origin

No original plates, covers or drawings may be sent by post (no documents will be returned).

Candidates guarantee that they are the authors of the project submitted and certify that this project is not the subject of any publishing contract in any form or medium whatsoever.

Should a conflict arise despite this guarantee, candidates undertake to assume and cover all costs, including legal and procedural costs, as well as any other expenses related to the management and resolution of this conflict.

Submission Rules

For Both Categories

  • Only works that have not been published in commercial magazines, commercial websites, or commercial comic books are eligible.
  • Please refrain from submitting the same work to manga contests run by other organizations during the submission period (from submission until the results page is published).
  • The manga must also not have been submitted to publishers or magazines between February 1st and July 12th, 2026.
  • Texts must be written in English or French.
  • Manga must be in black and white.
  • Manga must be in Japanese reading direction (reading from the right to the left).
  • All pages must have the same dimensions.
  • Final files must be exported as: JPEG or PNG. Dimensions must be 1,920 x 2,560 px.
  • The participant must be aged at least 18 years old by the 1st of July 2026.
  • Files must be named as follows: Title_Pseudonym or candidate's name.
    Example: Mon Manga_Dupont Pierre
  • The cost of this creation will be borne by the Participant.
  • The manga submitted by the candidates will not be made public, with the exception of the 10 pre-selected manga and award winning manga.

Story Manga Category

  • The manga must be an original one-shot, i.e. a story with a beginning and an end.
  • The number of pages must be between 10 to 45. Any introductory illustration will be counted in the total number of pages.

Drawing Category

  • You may submit up to three (3) works. (Multiple entries to the same category are allowed.)
  • Do not use the final storyboards for any purpose other than entering this contest.
  • Winning works may be featured along with the creator’s name (pen name) on websites, social media, booklets, pamphlets, and other materials produced by Shueisha and/or Japan Expo for purposes such as promoting this contest, introducing past winners and winning works, or showcasing submitted works.
  • We may contact applicants during the judging process for verification.
  • We cannot answer any questions regarding the judging process.
