Sad news for the world of Japanese animation: the famous art director Shichiro Kobayashi has left us. His career made fans all over the world travel through the beautiful hand-painted sets made by his studio, serving more and more exciting and creative stories. In 2011, he was awarded the Cinematographic Merit for his entire career by the National Agency for Cultural Affairs. He honored us with his presence, by coming to meet the visitors of Japan Expo twice, and the festival management head would like to share these words:
"It was on August 25 that Shichirô Kobayashi undertook his last journey. Immense artistic director, Kobayashi-sensei is the artist, the painter, behind the sets of so many anime since the 60s. He made us travel to France with Remi, without family, around the world with Treasure Island, in the fantasy with Lamu, in the daily life of Japanese people with Theo or the Victory Bat, and in space with the film of Cobra. Guest of Japan Expo in 2015 and 2017, our thoughts are with his wife and family. Thank you for making us dream for so many years!"
