EXHIBITION: JUNJI ITO - NIGHTMARES & OBESSESIONS
A step six feet under!
In the Junji Ito, Nightmares & Obsessions exhibition, immerse yourself completely in the universe of horror master Junji Ito! The 400m² gallery is interactive and packed with exclusive information.
Visitors will step into darkness, accompanied by Ito's characters (Tomie, Soïchi...), his themes and his favorite authors (Kazuo Umezu, Lovecraft, body horror...), all for a gloomy scenery that'll spiral out of control!
KAZUHIKO TORISHIMA
Kazuhiko Torishima's track record is a sight to behold:
As a publisher, he brought Akira Toriyama out of the shadows and played an active part in the development of DRAGON BALL and Dr.SLUMP during their publication. After sponsoring success after success, both in manga and video games, this characterful personality, initially perceived as an atypical outsider to the world of manga, made his mark on the history of Weekly Shonen Jump and became one of the most important figures in publishing and manga.
TOYOTARO
Fascinated since childhood by the adventures of Son Goku, Toyotaro was initially just a Dragon Ball fan, drawing his own characters inspired by this legendary franchise.
Step by step, this modest artist went from being a simple fan to one of the franchise's architects!

KATSUYOSHI NAKATSURU
Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru is an animator and chara-designer affiliated with Toei animation since the early 80s.
After working on feature-length animated productions, he gained recognition for his exceptional talent as a key animator, propelling him to important roles in the directing of the Dragon Ball anime adaptation, so much so that by the final third of Dragon Ball Z, all episodes follow his model sheets. He was also in charge of character design for the Digimon series.
BRIGITTE LECORDIER
From Japan to France, Son Goku's adventures awes people young and old around the world!
At Japan Expo, the French voice of Son Goku joins the Japanaese godfathers of the Dragon Ball manga and anime!
Voice actress Brigitte LECORDIER returns to Japan Expo on her magic cloud, and opens the debate on the regularization of AI in dubbing.
Several Dragon Ball events will be announced soon.
KAZUYA TSURUMAKI
He is the director of the Neon Genesis Evangelion tetralogy of films and the brand-new Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX series.
His first titles as director were FLCL and Diebuster, which gained cult status for their unique style and iconic characters.
MAHIRO MAEDA
Co-director on Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo and Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, and storyboard credited on Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, Mahiro Maeda is a director, illustrator, set designer and animator, specializing in mecha design. His entire career has had a huge impact on Japanese animation: founder of the Gonzo studio, director of critically acclaimed anime (Blue Submarine N°6, Gankutsuou, etc.) to the point of gaining recognition from Hollywood, shaping the designs of Mad Max: Fury Road.
YOJI ENOKIDO
He's in charge of the series composition for Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX. Alongside director Kazuya Tsurumaki, and worked on FLCL, Diebuster and The Dragon Dentsit, leaving an indelible mark on the Japanese animation industry.
YOKO TAKAHASHI
Back at Japan Expo after an unforgettable showcase in 2019, the singer of the credits of A Cruel Angel Thesis from Neon Genesis Evangelion returns to sing along with the visitors!
UNMISSABLE EVENTS:
- The Evangelion 30th Anniversary Special Event, on Saturday, July 5, with :
- A singing performance by Yoko Takahashi, singer of the original credits of the series "Zankoku na Tenshi no Thesis" and of the insert song "Tamashii no Refrain".
- A round-table discussion with directors Kazuya Tsurumaki and Mahiro Maeda to celebrate the franchise's 30th anniversary.
- The big-screen screening of the film that concludes the entire saga, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time.
- The "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX" Special Event , on Sunday, July 6 with Kazuya Tsurumaki, Mahiro Maeda and Yoji Enokido.
OH!GREAT
He is the author of the cult rollerblading manga Air Gear, which won the Kodansha manga prize in 2006 and was published in France the same year until 2013. He is also the illustrator of the Monogatari manga series, with NisiOisiN as the writer, and of Kodansha's brand-new Shônen Magazine series, Kaijin Fugeki!
A talented illustrator, his trademarks are a precise pencil stroke, attention to costume detail & stunning perspectives!

Newly published by Kurokawa, CENTURIA's mangaka is honoring us by making his launching party in France at Japan Expo!

live-action & tokusatsu
SHUNJI IWAI
In collaboration with La Maison de la culture du Japon in Paris, the independent filmmaker celebrates the 30th anniversary of his film Love Letter. Although primarily known for his live-action films, he is no stranger to the world of manga and animation, returning to France after presenting The Case of Hana & Alice at the Annecy International Animation Festival.
Shunji Iwai is here to present a retrospective of his body of work inspired by shōjo manga.
HIROSHI WATARI & MAKOTO SUMIKAWA
They were together, the inseparable heroes Spielvan and Diana Lady, in the Jikû Senshi Spielvan series that once aired here in France. They meet again 39 years later at Japan Expo. :
Hiroshi Watari and Makoto Sumikawa are two stunt actors specializing in tokusatsu series, having both graduated from the JAPAN ACTION CLUB (JAC) acting school.
These childhood heroes do three backflips and a glide to save Japan Expo from the forces of evil. Find out more about their exploits at a conference or signing session.
