Ryôsuke SAKAMOTO started his career at only 4 as a nihon buyô traditional dancer and became master of the Wakayagi school at 17. He made his acting debut at 18 in the TV show Ashita no Keiji and played in many TV shows.
In 1984, Ryôsuke SAKAMOTO already was a quite famous actor when he auditioned for the lead part in Bioman (Chôdenshi Bioman), for which he was chosen. It is a noteworthy series as the shooting was dotted with incidents and accidents. Ryôsuke SAKAMOTO broke his shoulder and arm during a motorcycle scene, which led to enrich his partners’ parts. Hardly was he back on his feet when the point of fake plastic sword almost severed his carotid, an incident which could have been tragic.
Yet the success of Bioman increased his fame and got him one of the main roles in the musical Annie. Ryôsuke SAKAMOTO appeared as a guest star in episodes of tokusatsu series (special effects series) such as Special Rescue Exceedraft or Tokusou Robo Janperson.
He quit cinema in 1994 to take over the family printing business with his older brother but kept teaching traditional dance. He was back on the screens the same year in a few TV shows but mainly in stage productions.
Despite health problems in 2017, Ryôsuke SAKAMOTO keeps on acting to this day. Last November, he released a two-song CD, one of the songs being written by a friend of his and former sentai actor, Masaru SHISHIDO (Chôriki Sentai Ohranger).
As Bioman is turning 35 this year, Japan Expo is bringing together the full team of the show to celebrate the event with them. Created in 1984 by Toei, Bioman is a super sentai TV show, a genre featuring superheroes in costumes fighting evil. The eighth series of this type in Japan, Bioman brought innovations like featuring two women among the five heroes, Yellow Four and Pink Five.
Its 51 episodes initially aired in 1984 and 1985 in Japan and soon also in France, first in 1985 and again in 1987. It was a success and the show became a must for the audience at the time.
Synopsis: The once prosperous Planet Bio is destroyed after a world war erupted over the use of a scientific discovery called "Bio Particles". The Planet Bio Peacekeeping Alliance, which sought to use Bio Particles for peaceful purposes, sends the giant robot Bio Robo and an assistant robot named Peebo to prevent the same tragedy from happening on Earth. Bio Robo arrives in 15th century Japan, where it showers Bio Particles on five young individuals. Five centuries later, the descendants of these individuals, infused with Bio Particles, are chosen by Peebo and Bio Robo to become the Bioman team to protect the Earth from the New Empire Gear, an organization led by mad scientist Doctor Man.
