Koji Fukada

Kôji Fukada was born in 1980 in Tokyo. While studying Literature at Taisho University, he also took film courses at the Film School of Tokyo. After directing his first feature film, La Grenadière, he joined the theater company Seinendan in 2005, led by renowned playwright Oriza Hirata. Fukada went on to direct Hospitalité in 2010, followed by Au revoir l'été in 2013. His film Harmonium won the Jury Prize – Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016. In 2018, he was named Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters in France. He returned to Cannes in 2020 with The Real Thing (Suis-moi je te fuis, Fuis-moi je te suis), and his film Love Life was selected for the Official Competition at the Venice Biennale in 2022. In 2025, Fukada is back at Cannes in the Official Selection with his latest film, Love on Trial.
