Bunka embroidery
Expert in the field of ancient Bunka embroidery, master SHIIZU comes at Japan Expo to exhibit her unique works. Go meet her at her booth and discover all her secrets about the techniques of this meticulous art!
Bunka embroidery, also called Bunka Shishu, took its roots in Japan nearly a century ago. It comes from the old Russian embroidery tradition, which goes back to the 15th century.
This art demands a lot of skill and patience: a special fabric on which the drawing is usually already printed is stretched on a frame with rivets. With the help of a pen-looking needle, we embroider threads of silk called bunka directly on the front part of the fabric, unlike the other types of needling embroidery.
Another aspect that distinguishes this art from the other types of embroidery is the fact that the finished work piece generally is framed and looked at like a real work of art!
This year, Master SHIIZU, one of the most famous artists in the world of Bunka embroidery honors the festival with her presence and shows everyone her unique techniques!
