Iaidô and zanshi
This summer, Japan Expo receives the visit of an expert in iaidô and zanshi: Eliza MEEKER offers you a demonstration of this martial art, such as the samurai practiced it, and of the great art of the cutting of swords.
Presentation
In part through the JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme), Eliza MEEKER has lived more than a decade in Japan, at the Kyûshû island, at Kumamoto to be more precise. There, she received a complete teaching on the sword practice, an art she now masters.
Her knowledge of the iaïdo, a martial art where focus is as important as the speed of execution of the sword’s sheathing and unsheathing, comes from the teaching she received from OTA Sensei, 9th dan, from the Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu school.
During these years, Eliza MEEKER also benefits from the teaching of MATSUNAGA Sensei, soke from the Shodaï Ryy Zanshi school, that test the blades of the blacksmith masters before handing it over to the buyers.
As of today, Eliza MEEKER is a chuden and 7th dan. She offers you a cutting demonstration, accompanied by her pupils and by Colin YOUNG, the official representative of the Shodai Ryu Zanshi in Great Britain.
