Yoshiwara Kitsune Shachu - Traditional dance

Yoshiwara Kitsune Shachu is performing Japanese traditional dances from the Edo period. Wearing colored kimono, they're offering you a vibrant show.

Posted on

The traditional dance Yoshiwara Kitsune came from the Yoshiwara district of Tokyo during the Edo period. Yoshiwara Kitsune's dancers are easily identifiable through their style: they are wrapped in colored kimono and wear white fox nô masks.  The dancers hold fans in one hand and bells in the other, to charm the onlookers.

The Yoshiwara Kitsune dance has disappeared in modern times, but in 2011 Yoshiwara Kitsune Shachu brought it back to life. Accompanied by flutes, taiko drums, and kane handbells, the dancers hypnotize the public with mystical choregraphies

Don't miss their show on the Sakura stage!
