A tribute to Monkey Punch, screening / TMS

Japan Expo is organizing a tribute to Monkey Punch, the creator of Lupin the 3rd, who passed away earlier this year, with this screening event dedicated to his work, featuring the very first episode of the first series, an OAV realized for the 50th anniversary of Lupin, and the film Fujiko’s Lie!

Book your seat for free: to access the events, you’ll have to show a ticket. Tickets are given out at the Signing Desk on the day of the screening, from the opening in the morning to 5.30 pm or until there are no more tickets. If there are some tickets left, they are given out at the entrance of the Yuzu stage.
First come, first served (one ticket per person).

Lupin the 3rd is one of the most recognized TV series in Japanese animation. It has been regarded as one of the best TV series as well as one of the most memorable animation of all time, by the Japanese viewers. Ever since it was first animated in 1971, the title has spawned numerous TV episodes, TV Movies, Theatrical Features and Merchandises.

The stories are action-orientated, and they have both slapstick and seriousness, featuring a good-willed gang of thieves: Lupin, Jigen, Goemon & Fujiko, all pursued by Inspector Zenigata who swears to capture them one day.

Since the broadcast of the first episode in 1971, Lupin the 3rd TV Series have been gracing small screen over many decades, entertaining many generations of fans. Notable episodes include the ones directed by Hayao MIYAZAKI.

The event organized by Japan Expo on Thursday, July 4 in the evening features the very first episode, an OVA and a film from the legendary saga: a tribute to its creator, Monkey Punch, who passed away last April.

Lupin the 3rd - Part 1, Episode 1

In the TV series: With the help of some quick gunplay by his partner Jigen, Lupin takes on the world in elaborate heists, classic car chases, and nasty explosions. Fujiko, a buxom redhead with a penchant for betrayal, always gets tangled up in Lupin's capers. The stoic but swift swordman Goemon is just as inclined to kill Lupin as he is to help him. And Lupin can never seem to lose the relentless Tokyo Police Inspector Zenigata.

In Episode 1 featured during the screening: Lupin appears among the F1 drivers at the Hida Speed Circuit. Lupin is aiming for the win, but the race is a big trap set up by a criminal syndicate. 

Is Lupin Still Burning? (50th Anniversary OVA)

In Is Lupin Still Burning?, Lupin receives an invitation from his old nemesis Mr. X to a race that’s collected past rivals and even Inspector Zenigata. Despite the suspicion that he’s walking into a trap, Lupin decides to participate. As Jigen and Goemon spectate, Lupin is mysteriously sent to the past, forever altering the course of Lupin and his gang’s history.

Lupin the 3rd: Fujiko’s Lie (film)

The devastating femme fatale whose only loyalty is to her desire, Fujiko Mine stars in Lupin the 3rd: Fujiko’s Lie, the long anticipated third installation of gritty and grindhouse inspired Lupin the 3rd series.

Connecting the revelations and intrigues of the previous Jigen’s Gravestone and Goemon’s Blood Spray, Fujiko’s Lie finds Fujiko facing her greatest enemy and the sinister powers that are intent on her demise
