Kim Youn Kyung
Kim Youn Kyung is a talented Korean artist who first rose to prominence in 2000 with the release of Yureka, a manhwa created in collaboration with writer Son Hee Joon. The series quickly became a cult classic, thanks in large part to its futuristic and visionary take on VRMMOs (virtual reality massively multiplayer online games)—a groundbreaking theme at the time.
The success of Yureka can be credited not only to its compelling story, but also to Kim Youn Kyung’s distinctive artistic style. Her dynamic and expressive illustrations bring to life characters who are both charismatic and deeply human, whether they’re navigating the virtual world or facing challenges in the real one. The action scenes are especially striking—rich in detail and expertly choreographed, they showcase her artistic talent with every intense duel rendered like a work of art.
Yureka played a major role in her career, spanning 14 years of dedication and culminating in a 41-volume series that is now published in numerous countries, including France, and enjoys a strong international following.
But Kim Youn Kyung’s creative journey didn’t stop there. In 2007, she released Ping, a 5-volume series that also made its way to international readers, including a French release.
That’s why we’re absolutely thrilled to welcome her to Japan Expo this year—especially since it’s been 17 years since her last appearance at the event! She’ll be with us throughout the entire festival for autograph sessions and to meet her fans.
