We recently told you about it in an article: the Cité internationale de la tapisserie Aubusson has joined Studio Ghibli to make a huge wall hanging with the colors of these legendary animated films! And here is the surprise: the institution is kind enough to come and exhibit at Japan Expo the monumental preparatory works of these tapestries so that the visitors can admire them!
The Cité Internationale de la Tapisserie will be present during the 4 days of the festival and will propose on its booth various animations:
- Presentation of the work "Hayao Miyazaki's imaginary world" in Aubusson tapestry
- Demonstration of weaving on a real loom
- Initiation to weaving techniques
As well as a conference to be found in the program.
The Cité internationale de la tapisserie will be present from July 14 to 17, 2022 at booth N191, alley N, in hall 5A. Three monumental preparatory drawings will be hung, inspired by "Princess Mononoke", "Spirited away", and "Howl's moving Castle".

The Cité internationale de la tapisserie was created in 2009 in response to the inscription of the know-how of Aubusson tapestry on the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The Cité includes a museum that preserves, enriches and promotes a reference collection on Aubusson tapestry to the public. It also pursues a proactive policy of contemporary creation through the constitution since 2010 of a high quality contemporary fund.
The Cité also ensures the sustainability of the production sector. In particular, it responds to the need to pass on tapestry know-how by hosting a training course for weavers within its walls.
