18 years after Shall We Dance, the Japanese director, Masayuki SUO comes back with a maiko-movie. Discover this mysterious universe with Haruko, an apprentice geisha!

In each of his movies, the director Masayuki SUO doesn’t cease to seduce the whole Japan by his unique interpretation of the society. After 20 long years, he finally releases his last movie: Maiko Lady. In the main role of Haruko, the young Mone KAMISHIRAISHI offers us a talented interpretation and blows our minds through her sensational voice.
“Please ma'am make me a maiko!”
Haruko, freshly debarking from her countryside, wants to become a maiko, an apprentice geisha. Thanks to a linguistic teacher able to manipulate every single Japanese dialect, she becomes an apprentice au pair in a tea house. She will have to learn the good manners of the traditional Kyoto, and starts to transform her strange dialect into the elegant dialect of Kyoto. Surrounded by older geishas and by terrifying masters, will she fulfill her dream?

Characterized by his long and rigorous researches and by a detailed sense of observation, Masayuki SUO doesn’t stop to make his public laugh and astonished.
He finally releases his last movie: Lady Maiko for autumn 2014. Willing to find the best actress to fit the main role, it took him 20 years to find the chosen one: Mone KAMISHIRAISHI.
Noticed among 800 other participants during the auditions for Haruko, the young actress Mone KAMISHIRAISHI miraculously answers to the criteria of Masayuki SUO. Whether it is for her exceptional voice or her innocent face, the high school student of 16 years old was also remarked by Mamoru HOSODA for The Wolf Children Ame and Yuki, an animation movie for which she leads her voice, or Ryûichi HIROKI for Nobody’s perfect in which she plays the role of a pupil.
As the character of Haruko, KAMISHIRAISHI comes from Kagoshima in the south of Japan. Her beautiful voice and her scenic presence reminds SUO of a brut diamond that just needs to be polished. SUO’s intuition was right: the motivation of Mone HAMISHIRAISHI during the filming rings a bell with the determination of Haruko to become a maiko.
