Japanese wind chimes
This Summer, the sound of fûrin comes to freshen the air of the WABI SABI area, with members of the Myôchin family, craftsmen from the best lineage of wind chimes making!
Presentation
Fûrin, also known as Japanese wind chimes, are frequently used in Japan. It’s a common custom to hang them above French doors during Summer, to hear their crystalline and refreshing sound.
The Myôchin Hibashi wind chimes, coming from the city of Himeji in the Hyôgo district, are known throughout the world for this long and pure sound they make. They were used by the electronic music compositor Isao TOMITA and also by Stevie WONDER, amongst others.
The MYÔCHIN family has crafted samurai armors since the Middle Ages. But when these warriors were wiped from the earth during the Meiji Restoration, this family uses her experience in metal crafting and starts to make Hibashi metal chopsticks. It is Mr. Munemichi MYÔCHIN, 52nd master of the family, who for the first time decides to make Japanese wind chimes with these metal chopsticks.
