The industrial Charles LANG FREER (1854-1919)’s collection included over a thousand rare books from the Edo (1600-1868) and Meiji (1868-1912) periods. You can now admire the thousands of paintings and woodblocks they include for free on the Freer|Sackler Library website. Among this impressive collection are some volumes showing woodblocks by Katsushika HOKUSAI (1760-1849) or Andô HIROSHIGE (1797-1858).
You can have a look at the books on the Freer|Sackler Library website: library.si.edu/digital-library/collection/japanese-illustrated-books.
