Profile

Kazuko SHIBUYA decided to be a graphic artist as she was still young, after discovering the anime Uchû Senkan Yamato (Space battleship Yamato). After graduating, she started working in an animation studio where she contributed to the anime Obake no Q-Taro (Little Ghost Q-Taro), Area 88, and Transformers. Yet she was not fully satisfied with her job as an inbetweener and decided to do something else.

In 1986, she applied for a job with the video game company Square Co., Ltd, who hired her after a pixel illustration test. Her first job was illustrations for King's Knight.

When the Final Fantasy project was launched, Kazuko SHIBUYA volunteered to join the team and oversaw the pixel art aspects of all the universe of the game, from sprites cities and even the title screen and the famous menus. A pixel art master, she is the one who created the 2D graphic identity of the saga, which makes her one of the most important figures of the history of Final Fantasy

Come meet Kazuko SHIBUYA at Japan Expo: she will be holding signings and a conference to talk about her work. Take this opportunity to discover her new book, FF PIXEL, which just came out.
