Profile

KAMUI is a group of samurai artists who merged a beauty of form, acting, and martial arts. They have been performing mainly overseas at venues such as the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC, USA; the Pergola Theater and Vecchio Palace in Florence, Italy; the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia; the Armani Hotel Dubai, United Arab Emirates; and others.

Tetsuro SHIMAGUCHI, leader and creator of KAMUI, choreographed the sword-fighting scenes and instructed the actors in Quentin TARANTINO’s movie Kill Bill: Volume 1. He also appeared in the movie as Crazy 88’s Miki. The movie ranked first in The Best Fight Scenes of the 21st Century according to the American movie news site Collider in 2017. Tetsuro SHIMAGUCHI also received a rave review for his work.

In 2012, Tetsuro SHIMAGUCHI, leader of KAMUI, established his own samurai dôjô named KENGIDO to teach sword techniques in Japan and other countries such as Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Belarus, and the USA.

KAMUI has been involved since 2017 in creating a short movie, DIAMOND ROUTE JAPAN, to promote the revitalization of Fukushima. The movie gained great popularity and achieved more than 15 million views in 2017 and 2018 combined.

In recent years, KAMUI has been working with overseas public figures such as the former Brazilian soccer player Ronaldinho and the French actor Gérard DEPARDIEU, instructing them about samurai techniques. Their leader, Tetsuro SHIMAGUCHI, is the first Asian artist winning the Consonanze Award in Florence, Italy, in October 2018.

KAMUI is the only group of samurai artists in Japan which has been disseminating Japanese samurai culture as a form of art to the world. They have also obtained an international patent for samurai artists.

KAMUI will be attending the 20th Anniversary of Japan Expo and performing their samurai sword show featuring singer Mika KOBAYASHI. Don’t miss them!
