TAPISSERIES GHIBLI
The Cité internationale de la tapisserie is renewing the tradition of great narrative hangings by weaving the worlds of Tolkien and Hayao Miyazaki into tapestry!
Posted on
Following the creation of 16 tapestries inspired by Tolkien, the world of Hayao Miyazaki is being woven in Aubusson thanks to a partnership with Studio Ghibli!
Since its creation, the Cité has developed an ambitious policy of contemporary creation, signing a partnership with Studio Ghibli in 2019 to create a tapestry based on images taken from the films of director Hayao Miyazaki. The production of these monumental tapestries continues today with an exceptional fifth tapestry dedicated to Studio Ghibli's most iconic film: My Neighbour Totoro.
On our stand, you can explore the captivating world of Hayao Miyazaki and admire reproductions of tapestries inspired by the films The Moving Castle and Princess Mononoké. A surprise tapestry from the film My Neighbour Totoro, financed by a participatory campaign launched on 13 June 2024, will be added to the collection.
The works of J.R.R. Tolkien, part of a modern mythology, are also destined to become historical tapestries. We will also be presenting a reproduction of the tapestry depicting Taniquetil, the sacred mountain of the Immortal Lands described in The Silmarillion.
A professional weaver will also be on hand to demonstrate her skills.
