Osamu NABESHIMA

Biography

Osamu NABESHIMA is a Japanese animator and director. He graduated from the anime department of Tokyo Designer Gakuin College and signed his first work as an animator with the TV anime series Getter Robo G (1975).

He has worked in legendary studios among which Studio Z, Studio No.1, and Studio Nonmaruto with such animators as Masakatsu IIJIMA, Hajime KAMEGAKI, Kazuhiro OCHI, and Masahito YAMASHITA. Under the supervision of Yoshinori KANADA, Osamu NABESHIMA has showed much talent in action anime, using innovative techniques.

He has also worked on many animation feature films such as Adieu Galaxy Express 999 (1981), Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984), Castle in the Sky (1986), or Akira (1988). 

 
 

In the early 80s, he started directing and has contributed to several projects as a director, whatever the genre of the final work. His first one as a director was Tottemo! Luckyman (1994).

At the moment, he mostly works as a director for TMS Entertainment. Among his major works as a director, let’s mention Saint Tail (1995), Aoyama Gôshô Tanpenshû (1999), Hamtaro (2000), D.Gray-man (2006), Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas (2009), Yowamushi Pedal (2013), etc.

Osamu NABESHIMA loves travelling and this time he’s heading towards Japan Expo to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas. He is coming with a fellow traveler, Yukô IWASA, the chara-designer of the anime, for signings and a conference
