Biography

Ken AKAMATSU was born on July 5, 1968 in Aichi prefecture. As he was studying in college, he was part of the manga, animation and cinema study groups.

In 1993, he is nominated for Weekly Shônen Magazine’s 50th Manga New Talent Prize for Kid’s Game for One Summer, for which he was awarded the Jury’s Special Prize. This was the beginning of his career as a professional mangaka.

In 2001 Love Hina was released (14 volumes in all), written and illustrated by Ken AKAMATSU: it’s a success and the manga gets Kôdansha’s 25th Manga Prize. Later, from 2003 to 2012, he published Negima! Magister Negi Magi (38 volumes in all) in Weekly Shônen Magazine.

At the moment, he’s working on UQ HOLDER!, which is currently being published in Japan in Weekly Shônen Magazine.
