Yosakoi Paris Hinodemai is a yosakoi dance group. At first, they were a group of friends who got together to share their passion for and joy of dancing. The group is made a 5 to 10 Japanese and French members of various ages.

Since the team was created in 2014, Yosakoi Paris Hinodemai has had opportunities to perform on Japan Expo Sud’s stage, and to exchange and train with Koidoukai (Bordeaux’syosakoi team). Besides, they also took part in the events Japan Expo Paris and Japan Expo Sud, C’est bon le Japon, Samurai Japon, la Fête de l’automne à Marseille (Marseille’s automn matsuri), and to the Yosakoi European Network = YEN with trainings in Sweden.

The group wishes to spread yosakoi dance and to promote Japanese traditional culture and this style of dance.

what is yosakoi?

Yosakoi is a dance from the city of Kôchi, on the Shikoku Island. Created in 1954, after World War II, this dance’s aim was to reinvigorate the country’s economy and the cities scarred by the war.

Combining a traditional style with more modern movement, this lively dance is for everyone. Yosakoi is danced with naruko (an instrument made of wood used to scare off birds in rice fields) but also with lanters or fans.

Since yokasoi is practiced everywhere in Japan, every province has its own tradition and dancers’ dress code can be different: they can wear kimonohakama or just a tee-shirt.
