Denchû-kun was made after a wood sculpture by Hirakushi DENCHÛ of Kagamijishi (The Lion Dance), one of the most famous kabuki plays.

Hirakushi DENCHÛ was a Japanese sculptor who received the honorific title of honorary citizen of Ibara and the Order of Culture. 20 years were necessary to create this piece of art made after the kabuki actor Kikugorô ONOE VI in his role of Kagamijishi. This wood sculpture is currently displayed in the National Theater, Tokyo.
