The 16th Impact on the roads of Japan
Japan Expo is in a way a little piece of Japan welcoming you with open arms for 4 days not far away from Paris. This year, 247,473 of you accepted the invitation to go on this journey on the roads of ancient and modern Japan. Let’s have a look back at the events and activities dedicated to traditional culture, martial arts, and tourism!
If Japan Expo is the kingdom of manga, animation, J-music and Japanese pop culture in general, it’s also the kingdom of traditional culture and the discovery of Japan. And a large part of the festival programming was dedicated to them.
The Sakura stage, 111sqm large with a hanamichi (a proscenium like those of kabuki stages) unveiled the beauty of the arts and folk culture from the land of the rising sun with 37 events, that is close to 30 hours of programming within 4 days. 133 artists performed on stage to give you the best of traditional music and dance, and to present sword fight shows, rakugo, or a Japanese traditional wedding ceremony, and many more featured on this page.
In the alleys and on booths too, traditional culture was at its best. The WABI SABI area, back for the 5th year in a row, featured 120 craftspeople and artists, and their creations. To have a look at the photo album of the WABI SABI area, have a look at this page.
Inseparable from traditional Japan and from Japan Expo, martial arts had pride of honor too and you enjoyed the many opportunities proposed by 6 associations on the 3 tatami areas to discover and try 9 disciplines (more about them on this page), that is 81 hours of demos and initiation classes.
Japan enthusiasts who always want more could also discover modern Japan and even prepare their own trip: cities and prefectures attended the festival, and several panels and booths gave advice and information to get ready for your own experience of Japan.
