1858 was the establishment of diplomatic relations between France and Japan when a Treaty of Amity and Commerce between both countries was signed. This was also the beginning of a strong interest for Japan from the French, which never faltered to this day. Both countries have chosen to celebrate this anniversary with an important project called Japonismes 2018, which will feature events, exhibits, and shows from July 2018 to February 2019.
Japan Expo is a vivid example of the French affinity with Japanese culture and will be part of the celebrations. As part of Japonismes 2018 and in partnership with The Japan Foundation, we will host a traditional music show of wadaiko and tsugaru shamisen. Always trying to innovate, Kenji FURUTATE and Keisho OHNO give new horizons to their instruments: don’t miss the duo at Japan Expo 19th Impact!
